Method

1
Clean the asparagus by cutting 3cm off the ends.
TIP
While both thin and thick asparagus can be used, medium-thickness spears work best for stir-frying. They are sturdy enough to hold their shape but tender enough to cook quickly. If you are using thicker ones, you may want to slice them in half lengthwise to ensure they cook through evenly.
2
Cut the garlic into fine, thin slices.
3
Peel the ginger and cut it into thin slices and then into thin strips.
4
Brown the Lurpak® Soft in a wok with the garlic and ginger. When the garlic is golden, add the asparagus and fry for 1 minute. Add the oyster and soy sauce and toss until everything is well mixed.
TIP
Keep the heat high to get that slightly charred, smoky exterior on the asparagus while keeping it crisp. If the heat is too low, the green spears may turn soggy.
5
Serve immediately.

Questions about asparagus stir-fry

Whether you are a long-time asparagus lover or someone looking to give it a second chance, this asparagus stir-fry recipe is a must-try. Below, you will find answers to some common questions to help you perfect it. Have a look before you get started on the recipe.

  • Choose firm, bright green asparagus with tightly closed tips – these are the freshest and will hold up best to the high heat of a wok. If the stalks feel limp or the tips are starting to look mushy, they are past their prime.
  • To prep the asparagus for a stir-fry, trim the woody ends, which can be tough and fibrous. A good rule of thumb is to cut or snap off about 3cm from the bottom. Once trimmed, give the spears a quick rinse under cold water to remove any dirt, then pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel.
  • Stir-fry the asparagus for about 1 minute in a hot wok to get that ideal balance of crisp and tender. Avoid overcooking because asparagus is naturally tender and can become soggy.
  • While asparagus stir-fry is best enjoyed fresh, you can store leftovers for later. Place any remaining stir-fry in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 days. When reheating, quickly toss it back in a hot pan or wok for about 30 seconds. This helps bring back some of the original texture and prevents it from becoming soggy. If you are in a hurry, you can microwave it for about 20 to 30 seconds but be aware that it may soften more than when freshly cooked.

Try this Asian-inspired asparagus stir-fry with soy sauce

Asparagus might not always be the first thing that springs to mind when thinking of a standout dish, but this Asian-inspired asparagus stir-fry will change that. With just a few ingredients, this recipe brings out everything that makes asparagus amazing – its fresh flavour and tender yet crisp texture.

But the real magic happens in the wok. Cook, with a little Lurpak®, you can turn simple into glorious. A quick toss in sizzling Lurpak® Soft, garlic, and ginger transforms the green spears into deeply flavourful veggies. The wok’s high heat caramelises the exterior of the asparagus just enough while keeping the inside tender, bringing out the best in this spring vegetable.

Umami flavour with spicy punch

This recipe for asparagus stir-fry has deep, savoury umami goodness from soy and oyster sauce, balanced by the warm, fiery taste of spicy ginger and the mellow sweetness of garlic.

Soy sauce is great when you want some salty notes, while oyster sauce adds a touch of sweetness and glossy finish that clings to the green spears. The ginger’s heat elevates the taste experience, cutting through the rich Asian sauces.

The asparagus soaks up all those flavours beautifully, packing every bite with salty, rich, and slightly spicy notes. If you love bold flavours and easy cooking, this asparagus stir-fry is about to become one of your new go-to recipes.

Quick and simple - the best side dish for any occasion

Some recipes feel like a lot of effort for something that is “just” a side dish – but not this one. This asparagus stir-fry takes 10 minutes flat, with almost zero preparation, and still delivers a delicious dish to remember.

Enjoy it as a side for any dish, or on its own when you need a quick bite. Pair it with baked salmon, grilled chicken, or even a simple bowl of steamed rice. It is also excellent next to a juicy rib-eye steak with Asian slaw, adding a fresh, slightly smoky contrast to the rich, meaty flavours.

This versatile dish works for any occasion – whether you need a last-minute side for an easy dinner with family and friends or something impressive for guests. Simple, quick, and loaded with flavour – what‘s not to like?

Experiment with flavourful additions

Exceed every expectation by experimenting with flavourful additions or substitutions. If you enjoy a little spice, thinly sliced red chillies or a drizzle of chilli oil are the way to go. Both give the asparagus a hot, fiery aroma. And if you love a bit of smokiness, try stirring in a pinch of smoked paprika or adding a few drops of Sriracha – both blend into the sauce and deepen the flavour.

If you prefer a little sweetness, a small spoonful of hoisin sauce or honey will round out the umami flavours and create a subtle caramelised glaze. For a nuttier, toasted finish, a finishing drizzle of sesame oil will give the asparagus a lovely, aromatic richness.

And, of course, a little crunch is always welcome in a stir-fry. Toasted cashews or almonds will enhance with their satisfying nutty texture, bringing a delicious contrast to the tender green spears.
