Made from only a few natural ingredients

Great butter begins with purity. And Lurpak® butter and spreadables start with just fresh milk and lactic culture. In fact, our Unsalted Butter is just that. For spreadables, we add just water and oil. And like the name suggests, our Slightly Salted varieties get a pinch of salt.
 
Generations of expertise have taught us that the fewer the ingredients, the better the flavour. No additives. No shortcuts. Just honest craftsmanship that lets nature's best shine through, so you never have to compromise on quality or taste. Because real flavour starts with real ingredients.
 
We use about 20 kg of whole Danish milk to produce 1 kg of butter.

This natural ingredient helps give Lurpak® its distinctive taste, while our traditional churning process creates Lurpak®’s signature texture. Each batch is carefully tasted, tested and refined, to ensure you get the same delicious, delicate flavour Lurpak® has been known for since 1901.

Our logo, the "Lurmark", composed of intertwined Bronze Age lurs, remains our official quality mark, and only dairies passing regular blind taste tests are allowed to use it. Every spread, smidge or slab of Lurpak® has and always will be made in Denmark, a heritage we are very proud of. Our high standards are guided by care, precision and passion for real taste. It is this dedication that gives Lurpak® its distinctive, creamy taste and beautifully natural texture.

Lurpak® Slightly Salted Butter

Naturally crafted for taste, Lurpak® Slightly Salted Butter contains only:

•      Milk, lactic culture, and salt. 

Lurpak® Slightly Salted Butter is made from 100 % fresh Danish milk, lactic culture and a pinch of salt to bring out its delicate, rounded flavour. It melts beautifully and enhances any ingredient you combine it with. The flavour profile is distinctly creamy with a clean, balanced taste that elevates any dish.

In this section, we have gathered everything you need to know about butter, including how butter is made and what sets Lurpak® apart. Because when it comes to cooking with real, natural ingredients, understanding your butter is the first step to unlocking those truly glorious Lurpak® moments.

  • Butter is a natural dairy product made by churning fresh milk until the fat separates, creating a smooth, creamy texture. Salt is commonly added for flavour, but you can also find unsalted butter and butter with other flavour additives such as garlic or herbs. Butter can be used for cooking, baking, frying, and spreading directly on bread.

  • Yes. Lurpak® butter is real butter made from fresh milk and natural ingredients. No additives. No artificial colours. Just real, authentic butter. The fat content is at least 80 %, making it ideal for baking, cooking and spreading.

  • At Lurpak®, our non-spreadable butter is made from just milk, lactic culture and sometimes a pinch of salt. Nothing else. We use only the highest-quality milk to ensure a distinctively pure and delicate flavour. We turn the milk into cream, ripen it, and add lactic culture. Our slightly salted varieties get a pinch of salt. No scary additives, preservatives or colours. Just butter.

  • Lurpak® is butter. Margarine is made from vegetable oils and additives, while Lurpak® comes from pure fresh milk, crafted through time-honoured churning methods. Our traditional Lurpak® butter is made purely of milk (and salt if it is our Slightly Salted varieties). Our Lurpak® spreadables also contain oil and water so you can spread them straight from the fridge. However, since both product types are made from milk, they are not margarine.

  • Yes, you can freeze butter. Wrap it tightly to preserve freshness, and when ready to use, allow it to soften naturally. The taste and texture will remain intact. You can also cut it into smaller sticks or cubes and wrap them separately before freezing, so you always have the right amount at hand.
