Preheat the oven to 200c fan/gas mark 7/400f

To make the dough, mix the butter and flour together with your hands until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the sugar & salt, and gradually add the milk to form a sticky dough.
TIP
Adding dried fruit or grated mature cheddar cheese can give your homemade scones a sweet or savoury twist.

Lay the dough on a lightly floured surface and then begin to roll it out to about 3cm thick. Use a cutter to cut the classic scone shape - approximately 6cm in diameter - rolling any excess dough and cutting again until no longer able to.

Place scones onto a lined baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden and well risen.
