Method

1
Heat a large frying pan on a high heat. Add 3 tbsp of Lurpak® unsalted butter, the sliced garlic and peeled prawns to the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes, turning the prawns frequently to prevent burning. Add some grated lemon zest to taste, chopped parsley and chilli to serve.
TIP
To remove the veins from the peeled prawns, soak them in iced water and use a cocktail stick to tease out any entrails.
2
Enjoy your fried garlic & chilli prawns with a complementary dipping sauce, or a side of your choice such as sauteed vegetables or a rice dish.

Everything about Garlic & Chilli Prawns

  • For chilli garlic prawns, our recipe calls you to use fresh red chilli as these typically have more flavour and therefore enhance any dish. However, you can pick the chilli type depending on your spice preference. For a milder option, use a chilli with lower heat, like fresno chilli (which is similar to a red jalapeño). If you like it hot, try a bird's eye chilli.
  • When cooked with Lurpak® butter, both fresh and frozen prawns can be succulent and delicious. To achieve a better taste when cooking with frozen prawns, ensure you defrost them first. Our chilli garlic prawn recipe uses raw prawns; peeled and deveined, for maximum flavour.
  • When raw, prawns are a pale-transparent colour with dark lines where the muscles bend. Once perfectly cooked, you'll be able to see a bright pink or orange hue mixed with white flesh. They should curl into a more defined 'C' shape too – if they're too tight and closer to an 'O', you will know they have been overcooked.

Sides that soak, scoop, and sizzle

Treat yourself to this vibrant dish by pairing it with equally satisfying sides. As our recipe suggests, a chunk of crusty bread is a must – have it ready to mop up every drop of that buttery, garlic sauce. Fancy something more filling? Add a side of lemony couscous or steamed rice to soak up the flavours. Or, for extra freshness, try it with a crisp green salad complete with a citrus dressing; alternatively, sauteed vegetables would complement the prawns' rich, spicy kick – perfection. Over to you, Cook.

Keep it simple, keep it delicious

When it comes to prawns, keeping it simple is the best hack - they can be easily spoilt. Our recipe centres around a generous amount of Lurpak® butter to turn up the richness and fresh garlic & chili to bring just the right balance of heat and punch. Not to forget the lift of the lemon zest – prawns are at their best when bathed in citrus flavours. With the finishing sprinkling of fresh parsley brightening things up, you’ve got yourself a plate as equally packed in flavour as it is colour. No fuss, just pure deliciousness.

Mastering tender prawns

The secret to tender prawns? The secret is hidden in one word; balance, Cook. This is the fine balance between high heat vs short cooking time. Toss the prawns in melted Lurpak® butter to lock in moisture whilst adding a delicious richness. Just a few minutes in the pan keeps them juicy – overcooking is your only enemy here. A splash of lemon right at the end seals the deal, delivering soft, succulent prawns every time.
